Not all sugars are created equal. Many jams and jellies traditionally use cane sugar, or sucrose, as a sweetener. This all-too-common chemical is responsible for the large blood sugar spikes caused by table sugar. Foods which cause large, quick spikes in blood sugar can have many negative health effects from weight control issues to heart problems.
St. Dalfour fruit spreads contain among the lowest levels of sucrose in the category. We sweeten our spreads with only 100% fruit ingredients, employing the natural sweetness of vineyard-ripened grape juice instead of cane sugars or corn syrups. This means a healthier product which causes slower, more gradual blood sugar effects than standard cane sugar recipes.
The Glycemic Index (GI) is a scale that ranks foods from 0 to 100, indicating how quickly a food causes a person’s blood sugar to rise. With our unique century-old recipe and purely fruit-based sweeteners, many of our flavors are not only delicious, but also low GI (<55). * This allows our spreads to be a guilt-free part of a balanced diet and a healthy (tasty) lifestyle.
